With the launch of the THP Tech Studio, we are always on the look out for new products that are perfect for the #GarageSimCrew and today we might have found just that. When it comes to searching for the perfect hitting mat, there is one that is often overlooked and probably shouldn’t. The SIGPRO Softy Hitting Mat and Insert is not only unique to the market, but has some benefits that some of the more well known options simply do not have.

The SIGPRO line is designed in house by the Indoor Golf Shop. When I first heard this, I immediately thought of a cheap option “made for” product with high margins and cutting cost. After a bit of research, however, we learned that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The Indoor Golf Shop has the ability to test nearly every option on the market. Their website sells many of the biggest names in the game such as Fiberbuilt and TrueStrike. After thoroughly testing and deconstructing mats from just about every company, the design team discovered some materials and construction methods to produce not only the most realistic hitting surface, but also one that eliminates soreness in joints.

The SIGPRO Softy is a pretty innovative design that starts in the middle with a super soft foam insert. A plush layer of 1-inch thick Teeline turf feels a bit like real grass, and definitely on par with some of the more popular options available. Below that is a thin layer ABS polyurethane which is in place to allow for the flexibility at impact and then return to form immediately afterwards.

Three compression slots on the bottom of the Softy mat act as release valves. To explain this better, as you make impact with the mat it is compressed, and the air dissipates creating something that mimics a realistic golf shot on the grass. These release valves also help to eliminate any of what we call “mat arm” as they help remove the sharper vibrations that sting a bit.

Before getting to the fine details, something in that video above may have caught your attention as well. Yes, you can use a regular tee and adjust your tee height as you would on the course.

The hitting strip is the same specs and materials of the rest of the SIGPRO Softy Hitting Mat and the dimensions are 28″ x 12″. Having the strip will allow replacements to be made without having to buy an entire new mat. You can find the replacements on their website here.

The construction being done this way should help alleviate some of the “perfect golf shots” when you know you caught something a bit heavy. The fat shot perfection that is often times discussed with the #GarageSimCrew could be lessened while offering some protection to the joints at the same time. As a FiberBuilt user, we have enjoyed what that surface offered, but will be replacing it with the SIGPRO Softy Hitting Mat in the THP Tech Studio.

The Softy comes in two different sizes with the Large being 4′ x 10′ and coming in at a price of $999 and 4′ x 7′ coming in at a price of $799. The hitting insert is also available for individual purchase at a cost of $199.

Interesting that you’ve decided to move on from Fiberbuilt, but that’s saying something

Yes, but you’d might want to raise up the stance area as I think it’s fairly thick…1-2"

Wow HS hitting sims…that’d be a sweet setup for a high school as only recently are even colleges going down that route

The stance portion of it, being the same "softy" surface, do you sink or feel your footing isn’t secure? I know some people have said other mats when full/same material can feel like you’re sinking or standing in a hole

about the movement of the mat and the softness for footing – that’s not the case. The standing area of the mat is solid and firm – it is the hitting/impact section of the mat (the replacement insert) that is soft and flexible.

Hopefully my reply above helps you

Thanks that’s exactly what I was looking for

Thanks. You don’t want to go cheap on a hitting mat. The thought and research put into developing this mat is obvious.

That has been my take away all across the entire thing. There are many areas where you can save some money when building a simulator, the hitting mat doesn’t have to break the bank but it’s important to find some thing really high-quality

Agreed. It’s worth the extra $ to get something that is not going to cause damage to the body.

I’m curious with the 4×7 and that space next to the hitting strip. Is it enough to get the GC3 there and be in it’s hitting window?

It absolutely WILL be! Two bays!

And what Foresight product(s) are getting placed in there? I think you’ll need to post some pictures when it’s done

This is much more high-tech and quality for the long term

We use 4 x 10 in the studio currently, What the other should offer are plenty of space

The long term appeal is very real here

It’s honestly one of the best designs I’ve see. As far as having longevity in mind goes. It’s funny, I’ve been eyeing it prior to this even going up!

Looking forward to your thoughts

After a short session in sim this morning I made a purchase. New sigpro softy. Monster mat will be replaced as soon as sigpro arrives. Looking forward to giving it a try. Ordered 4×7.

It’s think you are going to like it

Yes that is side view
